A Unique Project in Europe

The Norte Litoral Highway runs along the northwest coast of Portugal, from Oporto to Caminha, near the Spanish border, with a branch towards the interior between Viana do Castelo and Ponte da Lima. The highway is 119 km long, of which 72 km are refurbished and 47 km new construction. The Norte Litoral Highway already has an electronic toll system with total absence of obstacles for users, similar to the system used on the Canadian 407 ETR Toll Road.

24-Hour Services

There is 24-hour surveillance and patrolling in order to provide service and aid to users in the event of emergencies. Additionally, users can keep informed about incidents on their routes by telephone. Moreover, a preventative maintenance system has been implemented on this highway and includes cleaning, signaling, enclosure and replacement of safety elements in the event of accident.

Excellent Safety Conditions

The highway includes 4 tunnels and wide inner and outer shoulders. It also has variable width lane separators and rigid concrete barriers on the newly-built sections.

CO2 Emission Reduction

The numerous safety measures and the reliable structure of this highway allow constant speed to be maintained during the entire route. In this way it undoubtedly contributes to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, encouraging environmentally-friendly driving.
